In an effort to grow into one of the nation's leading home builders, HomeLife Communities, a third-generation, family-owned Atlanta-based builder of affordable homes and neighborhoods, changed its name to Atreus Homes & Communities at the beginning of this year. Based on the Greek word for the "entrance to the home," the name Atreus Homes & Communities marks a new beginning for the award-winning homebuilder.

The new Atreus Homes & Communities will be dedicated to building on its roots in the Southeast and now bringing affordable homes to new families in new markets coast to coast. Currently, in the Greater Charlotte, NC area, Atreus Homes & Communities, formerly HomeLife Communities, has developed and is building within 14 single-family new home communities -- two in Cabarrus County, nine in Mecklenburg County, two in Union County and one in York County.

HomeLife Communities, now Atreus Homes & Communities, since its inception, has focused on the notion that it shouldn't just build communities, it should build them up. The company invests a sizeable percentage of its revenues back into the communities in which it builds through the Jon and Susan Been Foundation, specifically on charities and programs that assist children. In the Charlotte area, Atreus Homes & Communities also sponsors the Victory Junction Gang Camp for terminally and chronically ill children, accepting donations and matching those donations up to $25,000 for this special charity.
