City of Melissa Launches Progressive Marketing Campaign to Promote Growth
The City of Melissa is announcing a spearheaded marketing effort, with the financial support from local builders and developers, to promote the community and its plans for the future.

The objective for this alliance is to raise awareness about the city and strengthen its homebuilding business and eventual growth.

At the same time, city leaders want to maintain the city's small-town feel and neighborly charm while providing quality amenities, new businesses and residents in order to enhance its tax base.

"Whether you are looking for a more relaxed pace to your life, great schools for your kids, or an opportunity to shape your community, Melissa has it all," says Melissa Mayor, David Dorman. "While Melissa may be small in population, residents find that the service organizations of both the city and the school district are proactive and progressive." Currently, there are a number of residential developments such as Liberty, Hunter's Ridge, The Trails of Melissa and The Villages of Melissa; and builders including Drees Homes, Highland Homes, K. Hovnanian Homes, Plantation Homes, Ryland Homes, Scott Communities, Standard Pacific Homes and Wall Homes, offering single family homes from the low $100s to the $500s.

The Recognized Melissa Independent School District, one of the best in North Texas, is a major benefit to the city as it offers award-winning programs and curriculums, and a student to teacher ratio of 15 to 1, allowing children to receive more personalized attention.

There are currently 1,150 students enrolled at three schools in the district. Construction is also under way for the new Harry McKillop Elementary School which is slated to open in 2008.

With the increase in population in the last few years in Plano, Frisco and McKinney, the progression is moving north toward Melissa, which is why city leaders began to look ahead, anticipate and welcome new homeowners by implementing the Comprehensive Plan 2006 to help shape growth and development for the city.

This strategy was applied based on a shared vision and feedback from residents on what Melissa should become as it grows into a mature and sustainable city.

Every burgeoning city that neighbors Melissa had to attract new residents, build new roads, offer support to businesses and employment for residents and provide an excellent school system. With a collective effort among city leaders and its citizens, Melissa expects to do the same.
